Design and construct

A craft brewery built from bridge timber, pallets and farm-shed iron

Laidre designed and constructed a new craft brewery venue for Bucketty's Brewing Co. in Brookvale, working with North + North and Kiwi Creator. The brief was to reuse, recycle and repurpose: bridge timber, donated pallets, old kitchen cupboards and salvaged farm-shed iron all went into the fit-out. The venue seats 100, with room for a pool table and dart boards.

A brief built on reuse

Bucketty's asked us to design and construct a new venue for its Brookvale brewery, with North + North and Kiwi Creator. The brief came down to one idea: use what already exists, instead of specifying everything new.

What we built

  • Designed and constructed the venue with North + North and Kiwi Creator.
  • Made the big tables in the breakout spaces from the timber of a 100-year-old bridge.
  • Built pallets donated by local Brookvale businesses into the fit-out.
  • Turned old kitchen cupboards into the dart boards.
  • Clad the bar in rusted iron from a farm shed that blew over in high winds.
  • Put a 111-year-old piano up on a raised music stage.

A venue built to gather in

Bucketty's now seats 100, with the pool table and dart boards alongside the brewhouse. You can see the salvaged materials all through the finished venue, from the bridge-timber tables to the iron on the bar.

Thanks

Thanks to North + North and Kiwi Creator for the collaboration, and to our crew and trades, who turned a pile of salvage into a venue.
